On December 9th, we hosted our 'Santa Paws' event at Jackson Square, St. Clair and oh boy, what a day we had! From capturing adorable moments with Santa to making a significant impact in the community with a pet play day & adoption drive, it brought smiles and laughter all around and we truly enjoyed connecting with everyone and their fur babies!

We are s grateful for all the kind donations we received. We were able to feed so man cats and doggies over the Christmas season.

Our committee is already gearing up for the next edition! the success of this year's event has solidified it as a community tradition. Looking ahead, anticipation is building for Santa Paws 2024.

In response to a plea for help, we headed to San Fernando to assist with three feral female cats. Setting up traps, we successfully captured and transferred two of them to carriers. Regrettably, the third cat's trapping moment went uncaptured on camera.

After taking them to our vet for spaying, all three females were safely released and are thriving.

Spaying and neutering is crucial in curbing overpopulation, a responsibility we all share. With rescuers and shelters stretched thin, it's imperative to spay/neuter your pets. Join us in managing the population and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Recently, we received a call for assistance concerning several feral cats in need of trapping, spaying/neutering, and subsequent release. Thanks to our efforts, these cats have now been fixed, preventing them from contributing to the continuously expanding stray population.

We strongly advocate for responsible pet ownership and encourage everyone to take an active role in caring for their pets.

On 7th October 2023, we celebrated the success of our first Sip & Paint Fundraiser, and our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible individuals and businesses that made it all possible.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Simone and Sharon of CSpot Sip n Paint whose exceptional hosting made the evening truly memorable.

On Sunday 17th September, 2023, we received information regarding a cat that was trapped in an enclosure in the blistering heat for several hours.

 

 

 Our team is excited to announce our Curry-Q Fundraiser, a collaboration with Hott Shoppe, aimed at raising funds for the care of abandoned animals, offering them a chance at a better life.

We received news about some kittens taking refuge under a dumpster in Maqueripe car park, Tucker Valley, Trinidad & Tobago. When we arrived we discovered three adorable kittens with their momma. Hungry and in need of care, the kittens were quickly rescued, but capturing the mom required some gentle trapping. The good news is that all three kittens have already found loving homes! Now, we have a wonderful momma cat we lovingly named Valley. She has been spayed and is currently with a caring foster mom, but Valley is still eagerly awaiting her forever home.  During a site visit to assist a cat colony, the rescuer drew our attention to a lovable boy named Toffy.

Toffy had an excessively matted coat, was infested with fleas and ticks, and his overall health was suffering, significantly impacting his quality of life.

We reached out for assistance to groomers who could help Toffy, and fortunately, we discovered Fluff N Buff.

Fluff N Buff came to Toffy's home and gave him the spa day of his dreams. With love, care, and meticulous attention to detail, Fluff N Buff groomed Toffy back to comfort.

 As we are slowly closing off on our RS Colony, with only 6 cats remaining, we were called out on a site visit to a much larger colony.

 One Neuter at a Time! Did you know besides population control, neutering can help reduce or eliminate undesirable behaviors such as roaming, spraying urine to mark territory, aggressive tendencies, and excessive vocalization driven by mating instincts.

 Another truly successful TNR 🙌 Even though we anticipated two, we were pleasantly surprised with three. Initially concerned about trapping a male cat with a young one, they surprisingly ended up cuddling together.

This brings the total number of cats spayed / neutered in our RS Colony 9 out of 15. Great team, great work!

TNR - Trap-Spay/Neuter-Release, involves the humane trapping of cats and dogs. They are then taken to a veterinarian to undergo spaying or neutering. After the procedure the cats’ ears are tipped as a universal symbol, indicating that they have been sterilized. Finally, they are returned to their original location.

The Simba-Kai Foundation is a registered NPO in Trinidad and Tobago. Our mission is to

create a society where responsible pet ownership is valued, the stray animal population is

significantly reduced, and the well-being of animals is prioritized.

Over the past five years, Trinidad and Tobago has faced a persistent issue of an

overwhelming surplus of stray cats and dogs. This surplus has led to overcrowded animal

shelters, forcing them to resort to euthanasia, turn away animals, and constantly seek

donations to feed the large number of animals under their care. Additionally, citizens who

are determined to help are facing the heart-wrenching decision of spending a significant

portion of their monthly incomes, sometimes up to 80% or even 95%, on rescuing stray

animals. Compounding this unfortunate situation is the regrettable reality that some

citizens are forced to abandon kittens and puppies because their pet or a stray animal gave

birth on their property. Moreover, many stray animals, desperate for survival, enter the

homes of unwelcoming citizens, causing property damage and leaving behind a mess. Not

all citizens are open to embracing these animals. This cycle of challenges will persist until

effective measures are put in place to regulate the stray population and manage pet

ownership. Our foundation is committed to breaking this cycle.

How will we do it?

Through a variety of projects, we are tackling the stray population head on. First and

foremost, we will continue our field work, where we actively trap, neuter/spay, and release

as many animals as possible. Additionally, we are conducting extensive research on the

current issue, preparing informative materials and presentations to educate the public on

combating animal suffering at its core. Lastly, we will collaborate with relevant authorities

to propose cost-effective and practical solutions, such as policies, guidelines, and legislative

changes, to ultimately address the issue at its core and eliminate strays from the streets of

Trinidad and Tobago.

Our goal?

Long term, we envision a nation with regulated pet ownership that includes a pet

registration system, mandatory spay/neuter laws, stricter animal protection measures, and

a society that fosters a healthy relationship between citizens and the animals.

Short term, our objectives are to reduce the number of stray animals on the streets,

minimize property damage and annoyance caused by strays, provide shelters with the

opportunity to regain stability, and end the daily suffering of countless kittens and puppies

resulting from unwanted births.

Project 1 - TNR (Trap-Neuter/Spay-Release) in the Field

We are seeking funding to continue our crucial field work of spaying and neutering cats and

dogs. This project will run alongside our other initiatives mentioned above. While we

recognize that we cannot spay/neuter and release animals as quickly as they reproduce, it is

crucial to note that a pair of unaltered cats and dogs, along with their offspring, can produce

approximately 5,000 kittens and 500 puppies respectively over a seven-year period.

Therefore, every spay/neuter procedure we perform has a significant impact.

We kindly request your support through donations to sustain our field work. Currently, we

have secured the following rates for spaying/neutering:

Cats Spay: $400-$450

Cats Neuter: $350

Dogs Spay: $550-$600

Dogs Neuter: $450-$500

We will provide ongoing updates on all our social media platforms regarding the animals we

trap, neuter/spay, and release.

Your Contribution Matters:

Any contribution you make will be greatly valued and will make a meaningful impact on the

lives of these animals.

Accountability:

We are committed to maintaining the highest levels of transparency to foster a relationship

of mutual trust between our foundation and all our supporters. Upon request, we will

provide receipts for all spay/neuter procedures.
